MESSAGE FROM THE VENTURA COLLEGE PRESIDENT

Monday, January 13, 2025 – 5:10 PM

Dear Ventura College Students, Faculty and Staff,

The Ventura College Executive Team is on-site, actively assessing conditions at both the main campus and the East Campus. We are also closely monitoring updates from CalFire, National Weather Service, and local authorities within our service area.

Current reports indicate that the Public Safety Power Shutoff affecting parts of our service area will likely continue due to anticipated high winds. As a result, the college will remain closed until further notice.

Please continue to check your email and the college website for updates as the situation evolves. Expect an update by 7:00 pm tomorrow, regarding Wednesday’s operations.

Upon our return, we will work together to explore solutions that address any disruptions to the student learning experience. I am confident that, as a community, we can minimize the impact on our students and ensure they remain on track for success.

Thank you for your patience, resilience, and commitment during these unprecedented circumstances. Stay safe, and let’s remain hopeful as we look forward to resuming our work together.

Sincerely,

Dr. Claudia Lourido-Habib

MESSAGE FROM THE VENTURA COLLEGE PRESIDENT

Monday, January 13, 2025 – 6:30 AM

Dear Ventura College Students,

Welcome back to the Spring semester. As we begin, we find ourselves navigating unpredictable weather conditions and potential power outages due to strong winds forecasted between Monday and Wednesday this week.

As of this morning, Ventura College and the East Campus in Santa Paula are without power. We will remain closed until further notice. This public safety outage may remain until Wednesday morning.

Ventura College is actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as soon as we receive new information from official sources. Please check your email and the college website regularly for updates. If you have opted into our text alert system, you may also receive notifications through that channel.

I understand how challenging it is to start the semester amidst such uncertainty. These disruptions impact each of us in different ways. Let us approach this week with patience and compassion, extending grace to one another as we navigate these difficulties together.

While this is not the start we envisioned, I am confident that we will overcome these challenges as a community. Thank you for your resilience and understanding.

Stay safe, and let’s look forward to brighter days ahead.

Sincerely,

Dr. Claudia Lourido-Habib
